What a record
This year we've been treated to some wonderful individual performances; Jordan Spieth's Major quest springs to mind, before Jason Day took over and put on one or two exhibitions himself. However, the women's game has a superstar of its own and her victory at the Taiwan Championship on Sunday is arguably the story on the season.
New Zealand's Lydia Ko hit a final-round seven-under 65 to win by nine shots and reclaim the number one spot. It was the 18-year-old's fourth round of under 70 as she became the youngest player to earn 10 wins on the LPGA Tour. Now that's impressive.
So, for all our junior members out there, the bar has been set!
Back to club life and now that the clocks have gone back, it's the ideal time to work on your game. If you're struggling to get your weekly fix of golf as the nights close in, why not take to the range instead? Come and speak to the team and we can help ensure you are making the most of your range time, as opposed to making bad habits worse - get in touch here.
Littlehampton agreement
As you all know here at the Club we work hard to continually increase the benefits of being a member here at Epsom. So I am very pleased to announce that as of 1st November we now have a reciprocal arrangement with Littlehampton Golf Club down on the south coast. This has followed on, with the help of our President David Barrows, from the huge success of last year's 125th Anniversary match. The arrangement will allow one courtesy four ball per week and this must be booked through the Professionals shop.
So if you fancy a trip to the sea-side to play this cracking course please contact me at the Shop and I will make all the arrangements. There are also some changes to the fees of the Surrey Hills Golf Club Alliance reciprocal arrangements but I will let them give you more information on a separate email.
Men's pairs winter league
Last Sunday was the first round of the coveted Men's Pairs Winter League; an event played over 10 rounds with the best six results to count. The first round is always St Andrews Foursomes which normally brings out some great scores and this year hasn't disappointed with winners Dom Woodbridge and Max Edwards
Ladies Monthly Medal
The ladies this week headed to play their Monthly Medal and this month's winner was Kay Briggs with a very commendable nett 71 in tough conditions. The scores for the rest of the field weren't particularly great this week and I can only put it down to the slow recovery from last Friday's Does Supper. Another great event I hear, lots of singing and dancing into the wee small hours.
Apparently there is a video floating around and if I can get my hands on it it'll be in next week's email!!!
Jimmy's bringing his mate!!
I have already let you know about 'An Evening with Jimmy White', on Thursday, 12 November. They'll be a wonderful meal created by our very own master chef Sean, followed by World Champion Snooker legend whipping some of our members into shape over 8 frames. However, after a phone call with Jimmy a few days ago, I can now confirm that he is bring along his old pal John Virgo to compere the evening.
I've been to a function with John Virgo in the past and he was hilarious, so this evening just gets better and better. There are now only 20 spaces left for this fantastic evening so please hurry and get your names down to avoid disappointment.
After a few comments on the price of the evening we have decided to reduce it a little to £35 per head, a great price for a great evening with all profits heading to the further refurbishment of our great Snooker Room. Call or email to book.
Thursday Night Dining
Last night saw the return of the Thursday Night Gourmet nights with a nicely full dining room taking full advantage of Sean's superb culinary skills. The Clubhouse smelt amazing all afternoon and this was verified by the Men's Captain Tony Filbin who dined with his family and quoted,
'We had a fantastic meal and the Pork Medallions simply melted in your mouth and we're very much looking forward to next week's menu'.
To book a table for next Thursday please call the bar on 01372 741867 ext 3.

New Extra Long Yonex XPG Driver
As a few members might have heard I have got a new weapon in my bag and I can honestly say......it's a dangerous weapon!! I tested the new Yonex XPG driver and cannot believe just how much further I was hitting the ball.
I played in the Club match at Cuddington on Saturday and I can honestly say that I think on average I gained 15 yards. Why not come down and test the new driver in the swing studio and see just how much further it goes for you.
New Winter League Competition in the Swing Studio
Looking outside at the horrible weather what better excuse is there to enter a Winter Competition to be played in the warm and the dry. The event will be a 4 man (or woman) team event played on the GC2 simulator, full handicap stableford with all scores to count. There will be a trophy presentation to the winning team at the end of March as well as prizes for the best individual stableford score on each course.
The event will be played over 4 rounds at the following courses:
Round 1 (Nov/Dec): Celtic Manor 2010 (Back Nine)
Round 2 (January): Royal Troon (front nine)
Round 3 (February): Turnberry (back nine)
Round 4 (March): Hazeltine GC (front nine)
If you would like to enter a team the cost is £20 per player and you can enter either by emailing the shop or adding names to the entry poster on the Professionals board in the Clubhouse.
