I thought this week that I would start with what's coming up at the club as we have quite a diary of events happening over the next few weeks, so get you diaries out and pick out one, two or all of the following great events.
Pro Shop Scramble (Sunday, 17 October)
This coming Sunday I have put on a four man (or woman) Team Texas Scramble complete with the best way to start your day, one of Sean's fantastic buffet breakfasts. This event is open to all lady and men's full members, breakfast will be served from 7.30am and we will have a shotgun start at 8.45am and I still have a couple of holes available. So if you can raise a team or are on your own please let me know and I can allocate you a hole or a team. The cost is £48 per team including breakfast and prizes.
The Great War Commemorative Competition (Sunday, 8 November)
After such a fantastic and emotional event last year to commemorate the 100 year war, this year we have decided to open the event to all male and female full members. We are hosting the competition on Sunday, 8 November and there are a couple of rules that must be adhered to, firstly poppies must be worn and gentleman are required to wear jacket and tie for the presentation out of respect of the fallen soldiers. Again please see the men's and ladies notice boards.
Stag Supper (Friday, 20th November)
Gents if you fancy a great night out at the club, the Captain has laid on a Race Night on Friday, 20 November. Enjoy an evening of horse racing fun with live betting on old races, you may even win a few quid. There will also be a free snooker tournament throughout the night. This is combined with a fantastic two course meal and will be a great night to remember. The evening kicks off at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and the cost is £25 per head.
Does Supper (Friday, 23 October)
Well of course we can't leave out the Ladies, so on Friday, 23 October the Lady Captain has laid on a 'Roaring 20's Charleston Evening'. There will be fine dining, entertainment and dancing no doubt if previous years are anything to go by. Gentleman, this maybe one evening to steer clear of the club or you may be eaten alive! I have offered up my new assistant professional as the stripper for the evening but am still waiting for the reply. But seriously from what I hear this is always a great evening for the ladies and their guests so please either head to the ladies notice board for more details or simply email me and I can let the Lady Captain know. The cost is £26 per head.
An Evening with Jimmy White (Thursday, 12 November)
After the huge success of the exhibition evening World Champion Snooker Legend Jimmy White put on for us three years ago, I have managed to pin him down for another fantastic evening of fine food and some amazing snooker. On Thursday, 12 November we have laid on a stunning two course meal where during you we be able to bid on one of three frames to actually play against the snooker legend, the other frames will then be played against the winners of the this year's snooker competitions. Last time out of the eight frames played I believe he banged in five century breaks. This is a wonderful opportunity to see up close arguably one of the best snooker players of all time playing on Epsom's hollowed table. Numbers are limited to 50 and members are very welcome to invite guests but please get you names down and pay behind the bar to secure you seat. Cost including dinner £45, with all proceeds going towards the refurbishment of our beautiful Snooker Room. The sign up sheet is in the main entrance hall.
So as you can see we have plenty for your diaries so I look forward to seeing you all at the club. Click here to get in touch for more details regarding any of the upcoming events.
Winter Rules
Some of the more observant amongst you may have noticed that we haven't yet moved to winter rules pick. Traditionally we tend to come off at the beginning of October but due to the mild weather and consequent lovely lush fairways it has not been necessary. However on a course drive today I am starting to see a few little muddy patches and a couple of worm casts so we have decide to enforce winter rules from this coming Sunday, 18 October. You may now from the fairway or fringe of green, mark your ball, clean it and replace it within six inches no nearer the hole and under no penalty.
The Steinthorrssen Bowl
Last Sunday saw our men heading out to play for a beautiful trophy, The Steinthorrssen Bowl. Presented to the Club by a past member, Icelandic giant Magnus Steinthorssen. He was here before my time but I have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times when he returned to our shores, a lovely man and I believe someone not to go toe-to-toe drinking with! This year's proud winners of the stunning bowl were the brothers affectionately known as 'Straight and Straighter', otherwise known Paul and Keith Harris who took the title with a fantastic 47 points. Well played chaps.
Ladies Results
This week's ladies competition was the Mary Baillie Cup, again clearly another lovely lady past member judging by the size of the field. There were some really good scores from the ladies but way out in front with a superb 40 points was Christine Newby. This is even more impressive considering Christine is only just returning from a broken foot…beware the injured golfer! Well played Christine, a great return.
Captains' Charity Day
As I sit here and write this email, I can see members slowly starting to head home after playing in the Ladies and Men's Captains Charity Day. Diana and Tony have just put on a great day and managed to raise for their chosen Charity, The Rainbow Trust, just under £1,000. The winners were the formidable team of Mike Dowdell, Dave Burrell, David Lower and Phil Baker with 134 points and it's always great to see the club bursting with members enjoying a lovely day.

The Heaven Wood Challenge update
Many of you have taken me up on the Heaven Wood Challenge and I am struggling to keep in enough stock of the 'easiest club in the world to hit' but I have just had another three Callaway Heaven Woods through the door so if you would like to give it a try on the simulator please let me know. Some of the few who have taken the challenge and walked out with a heaven include Vice Captain, Adrian Northeast and club course record holder Hector Gauld. So please if you see them ask them about it.
