Battle of the Sexes
On Saturday was the annual needle match between the Epsom Ladies and the Epsom Men and as you may have seen from some of the emails last week we were oversubscribed with ladies wanting to whip us chaps into shape. However, Tony Filbin (the Men's Captain), lead out his band of merry men (lambs to the slaughter) against our Ladies Captain, Diana Balsdon. Word round the course was that the ladies were edging in front but once all the matches had made their way down the 18th the result was a very amicable draw, much to the relief of the men. So the coveted McWatt putter and bragging rights was shared this year but a great afternoon.
Weekly Competitions
Sunday's men's competition was the Tritton Cup, this is a par/bogey round or sometimes known simply as noughts and crosses. It's a tough format and not always the most popular, however numbers were good with well over 70 heading out on a lovely sunny Sunday morning. We quite often have countbacks to decide one of the top pots but this week we ended up with a five way countback for the Cup. So between Rob Jones, Roy Jones, Mike Dowdell, Olly Roberts and Keith Harris we had to look at their back nine, back six and even back three to finally work out that Mr Roy Jones had come out on top. Well played Roy, it looks like this is the year for the 'experienced' golfer.
Snooker Winners away day
Now I know we're supposed to be in the summer and it's hard to think about playing snooker in those long dark nights but it won't be long before the snooker heavies Adan Crockford and Richard Woods will be heading round and signing you up for all the snooker competitions throughout the winter. However, if you've not entered before I suggest that you give it a go because last year the Snooker committee can up with a great idea for the winners, a golfing away day. So last week all the snooker competition winners from last year headed off to Hindhead Golf Club to play for the 'The Beast', possibly the ugliest trophy to grace our golf club! And the winner of 'The Inaugural Snooker Winner Trophy' was Past Captain Mr Andrew Pelling, who had made the trip all the way from Bude in Cornwall, well played Andrew. So if any of you who have not played in the snooker competitions before fancy a game then please contact Adam Crockford on 07831 499702.
Captain/Pro Challenge
Just off to play a Captain and Pro match against next year's Men's and Ladies Captains, although looking at the weather I think I may need a snorkel, it might be 18 holes at Turnberry on the simulator instead.
Trolley Shed Amnesty
As you may or may not be aware, next to my pro shop is the trolley storage shed, now overtime this room does tend to fill up with more and more trolleys that are maybe not meant to be in there. If you have you trolley shed stored in there you must have registered it with Ann in the office as we only have room for a certain number. So on Tuesday it was cleared out and we have a number of trolleys without the name tags that I supplied last year, so please if you have a trolley in there please come and either collect it or get a tag from the pro shop and get it registered, otherwise it may be disposed of. Thank you and sorry to have a moan.
