I’d like to kick off this week's newsletter by saying a massive thank you to the Seniors Captain, Alan Cottan and all the rest of the Senior Section for inviting me to their annual Christmas Lunch & Prizegiving. It was a lovely atmosphere upstairs in the Beamed Room with the Seniors Captain and Vice, Roy Chegwin, giving some very entertaining speeches. Thank you again for the warm welcome and off to do it all over again this afternoon (Thursday) for the Men’s Roll-up Christmas Lunch.

Christmas has come early
Christmas has come early this year for our well-deserving Greenstaff, with the delivery of the brand-new Gator Utility vehicle and the new powered brush for cleaning the Winter mats.
I want to give a huge thank you to The Longdown Lottery and to you all who fund it for making this possible. We also have another piece of new machinery on the way in the New Year in the form of a NEW John Deere 1540 Rough-cutter. Some great re-investment into the golf course and it is very much appreciated.

As I have said in many newsletters before, our Greenstaff, under sometimes very stretched compacity, have down a wonderful job over the last few years. I think the course is looking better and better every season. And even through these incredibly wet winters, the way the course holds up is the envy of so many Clubs in the area. So, if you would like to show you appreciation to the Green Staff, I have set up a Christmas Box in The Pro Shop.

The Winter League is starting to hot up
This week’s format, after the last rounds tough aggregate medal, was the slightly easier ‘Betterball Medal’. Again, this week it couldn’t have got tighter at the top with the pairings of Micky Pate & Graham Wharton, Adam Crockford & Dec O’Brien, Alan Cottam & Bill Allison and Pete Osbourne & Kevin Phillips all shooting nett 64’s.
But, after very careful working out on a back nine decision, it was the pairing of Pete Osbourne who managed to come out on top. However, with another high result, O’Brien and Crockford maintained a substantial gap at the top. Will the Christmas break slow down their momentum? we’ll have to wait and see. |

Friday is the deadline
Below you will see what we have shown you in the past couple of weeks for some lovely Christmas gifts. This week, we have received some further FootJoy apparel stock, but orders must be in by Friday for all (now non-logo) stock please if you’d like it for Christmas. However, as I say we have plenty of stock in store and I’m sure we have something that takes your fancy. |
We have lots and lots of lovely Christmas gift ideas and stocking fillers in-store, and if you are not sure then please pop down for a bit of advice, or send in the wives, husbands and kids and we’ll make sure there is something lovely waiting for you under the tree on Christmas morning. The NEW FootJoy range has gone down really well so far with a number of you nabbing some of the NEW apparel in-stock but we’ve also have had quite a few EGC Logo orders that will be here in time for Christmas. However, for logo pieces, we really have to get the orders in the system by this weekend to guarantee Christmas deliveries. Non-logo pieces can still be ordered next week so pop in and have a look or follow the link here and then you can phone through or email me your order if you can't get to The Club.

Callaway Performance Centre Fitting opportunities Here we see Ed Baker taking advantage of the Callaway Performance Centre a few weeks ago. Since taking delivery of his NEW Odyssey Stroke Lab putter, he wanted me to let you know, he’s had 41 and a whopping 46 points over the last two Saturdays and he (and his disgruntled playing partners) is putting it down to holing putts from everywhere.

Turkey Trot 2019
Saturday, 14 & Sunday, 15 December This is now our biggest field of the year over the two days with 180 members already signed up. This is a four-person team Texas Scramble competition open to all 6 and 7 day and Flexible members. There are still a few slots on Saturday and literally two slots remaining on the Sunday so get in fast. We also have a reserve list with a couple of names on it if you’re an individual looking for a game. £24 per team

Santa’s Grotto & Carol Singing
Thursday, 19 December This is always a cracking night at The Club with it packed to the rafters. We kick with Santa Clause paying a special visit to The Club, handing out Christmas presents to all the members children and Grandchildren in his grotto. Food is available for all throughout the evening (details on the poster inn the entrance hall) and then the Carol Service takes place with the mulled wine flowing. So rally up the friends and family and enjoy a terrific evening at The Club. |
Pro Shop ‘Mystery’ Team Stableford
Sunday, 29 December This event is open to all Full and Flexible members who want to walk off the excesses from the previous week. It’s a 4 person Stableford team competition with the ‘mystery’ being that you won’t find it if it’s best 1, 2, 3 or all 4 players points to count on that hole until you reach the green.

New Year’s Eve Party
Tuesday, 31 December
This is a Black-Tie event, so dust off the tuxedos chaps and head up to The Club with friends and family to bring in the New Year. We have a very special guest performer this year after the huge success of her previous appearances at The Club, Past Ladies Captain and performing superstar, Julie Burgess will have you dancing in the New Year. We have a luxury three-course meal and the wine will be flowing. All for just £50 per head. Tables are filling up fast so please call the office to book or add your names to the list in the Entrance Hall. |
