Welcome to this week's newsletter, bringing you all the latest news, events and offers from Epsom Golf Club. We hope you're having a fantastic week on and off the golf course. Enjoy the read. |
As expected, a wonderful day On Sunday we hosted one of our most special days at The Club. It was Remembrance Sunday and it was our Great War Memorial event that was open to both ladies and gents, which received a fantastic turnout. The sun was shining when I went out on the course with my son to blow the claxon to mark the 2-minute silence at 11:00am. But it is the lovely atmosphere after golf with everyone changing to jacket and tie as a mark of respect for our fallen soldiers. The Men’s Captain, Steve Brown delivered a beautiful poem and had arranged for the very powerful ‘Last Post’ to be played over the PA system and was a very special moment for reflection. The course is playing so well, albeit clearly quite difficult, at the moment as the standard scratch went up to 71! However, I thought that it was quite fitting that our winner, with 39 points, was our Captain, Steve Brown after putting so much into the day.
|
We also had a presentation for one of the knockouts that had been played for over the Summer.
The Bessel Edwards is the Mixed Pairs Foursomes competition and the final was recently played out between John Chard and Conchita Caseares against Kimberly Munro and Robert Munro.
I was told it was a very tight final but the congratulations this year go out to ‘The Munro’s’ who lifted the silverware. Many congratulations.

A very special thank you must go out to Linda Rodgers for producing a wonderfully detailed folder tracing back all the histories of all the Past members who have their names our Memorial in the Entrance hall. Linda has put a great deal of research into the backgrounds of the individuals and is well worth a read if you have 10 mins at The Club. Thank you again, Linda.

Callaway Performance Centre Fitting opportunities
I’m headed off this morning (Thursday) with a member to have a Putter Fitting down at the superb ‘Putting Lab’ fitting centre at Callaway. We took Tom Williams Snr down last week so he is now armed with a custom Odyssey Stroke Lab Fang Putter, so watch out for Tom in the winner’s circle.
|
Myself and Adam are now pieces of the furniture down at The Callaway Performance Fitting Centre in Chessington. Just this week we have three members booked in down there for the ‘Callaway Experience’ and as I’ve said before either Adam or myself, will escort you down for a bit of company and support.
If you’d like a recommendation, have a chat with our Treasurer, Alan Cottam, who has this week been down there for the second time in three months. This time filling his bag with all NEW rogue woods to match his lovely NEW Apex iron in September. I currently have one date provisionally booked and that is Thursday, 17 November at 12.00pm, so if you would like to grab this for a driver, fairway, irons or putter fitting please let me know asap. |

#468FCD ;text-align:left">Stats that'll make you thinkYou don’t get to a single-figure handicap without having a strong iron game, but the journey shouldn't end there. For us, there are two key factors that, when combined properly, will help take your iron play to the next level. |
1) Get custom-fitted If you're serious about shooting in the 70s each and every round, then getting custom-fitted for your next set of irons is key. TaylorMade’s P790 model feel fantastic off the face and provide precise distances and control, but that's no good if you're using the wrong shafts or you need 2-degrees flat but yours are standard.
2) Know your yardages The second stat above is remarkable and if you're one of the 21%, you need to come and see us for a gapping session. There we can give you the distances you hit each of your clubs as well as spot any issues you have between clubs.
