Rest of the World triumphant
On Sunday, we had the ladies, gents and juniors all heading out to represent the countries of their origin in our annual England vs Rest of the World. It was a revelation to see how much foreign blood we have within the club, although the clarification was at times a little loose, with great aunties hailing from Azerbaijan and my Great Great Grandad once served in Africa?
We now play the format as an average points per side, as well as also running an individual stableford competition. The individual was narrowly won by Chris Blackman who beat Malcolm Walker on countback, both with 39 points each. But it was the foreigners’ Captain, Adrian Northeast who lifted the coveted Silver Globe, winning by the tightest of margins. So, England need to pull their socks up next year and get it back to Blighty!

Helen Walsh EWGA Medal
The ladies this week competed in the Helen Walsh EWGA Medal and again it was a very close-run event. Sue Brown came out victorious with a cracking nett 69, just pipping Julie Burgess to the post. Apologies to Sue as I made her pose for a winner’s photograph as we don’t often get a chance to see the winning lady.

Men’s Club Championships this weekend
The course is looking stunning, the weathers looking good, the field is full so why not get yourself up on Sunday afternoon for a great atmosphere for the presentation on the 18th Green. The kitchens are open for a bite to eat and the presentation is normally about 3.30pm(ish). We then, of course, have the now traditional ‘Charity 150-yard Challenge’, always a very funny event watching members trying to hit a great golf shot after maybe one too many gin n’ tonics! I look forward to seeing you all there and the very best of luck to all that are playing. We also have our Junior Club Championships on Saturday and we thought it would make it a little more special to present the winners on the Sunday big event. I’ll give you a full report of the weekend’s activities and results in next week. |
PXG comes to Epsom
You have probably seen the name PXG on the TV and being played by many Tour players on both the men’s and ladies tours. PXG has emerged as the front runner in extreme quality and the leading force in custom fitting.
Now is your chance to come and try and be fitted for irons, drivers, fairways and hybrids. I have to say, I tried out their driving iron the other day and it went like a bullet but at the same time felt incredibly balanced. The fitting day is on Saturday, 21 September and appointments with the ‘Master Fitter’ are available from 9.00am – 2.00pm. This event is also advertised on the PXG website, so appointments may go quickly. Call us on 01372 741 867 or click here to book your slot today. |
EGC Men’s Seniors Open Thursday, 12 September
This event is growing more and more popular every year as our members now realise that they are able to play in it. We have golfers coming from far and wide with last year’s winner coming from Crowborough Beacon GC down in Sussex. He is down to defend his title again but if you would like to keep the crown here in Epsom, let us know in the Pro Shop as soon as possible as the start sheet is filling up fast. Outside golfers are charged £35 entry but members only pay £30, with this including coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, golf followed by a two-course carvery and presentation of prizes. Look forward to hearing from you, open to ALL male members.

EGC Mixed Open Saturday, 14 September
Again, as with the Seniors event, popularity has grown since we have publicised that EGC members are very welcome to play in our Mixed Open with a guest. It’s a great day and the format is Betterball Stableford followed by a luxury cold meet buffet and presentation of prizes. To outside pairings, the cost is £65 but to an EGC pairing the cost is just £60 per pair. You can either head to the ‘Play’ dropdown on our website or directly email the Pro Shop with your pairs.

Revealed: Our favourite trolleys of 2019 |
Push trolley or electric trolley? Do you have a preference or have you not really thought about it that much? We have both covered as we reveal the best trolleys money can buy in 2019, and both of these winners are available through your very own pro shop. |
| Push to pass - Motocaddy Z1 Happy to go around under your own power? Then you can’t go wrong with Motocaddy’s Z1 push trolley. The Z1 is our top pick when it comes to value and practicality from a push trolley, not just because its lightweight nature is a joy to handle around the course, but also because the easy-to-fold two-step system makes it quick and easy to transport.
|
| Go electric - Motocaddy S1 Want to take a load off and let the trolley do the bulk of the work? Then there are none better than Motocaddy’s electric S1. A whisper-quiet 200W motor provides ample power throughout your round, allowing you to stay fresh for the back nine. Its stunning high-resolution LCD display has been updated for 2019 and keeps you ‘up to speed’ with battery life and speed settings.
