Ladies Club Championships Last week the ladies competed for the big one...The Ladies Club Championships! This is a 36 hole event over Friday and Saturday with the gross and handicap titles up for grabs. It was tight overnight with only a couple of shots between the top players in both competitions so it was all to play for come Saturday…so who could hold their nerve?
The Ladies Gross Champion this year was Zhuqing Bao who narrowly beat last year’s Lady Captain, Julie Burgess, into runners-up spot. The Ladies handicap Champions was Past Lady Captain, Helen Davies who managed to hold off the rest of the field. It was a great event once again and was a lovely presentation out on the terrace where the prosecco flowed on into the afternoon.

Captain's Prize Day On Sunday the Men’s Competition was hosted by our Men’s Captain, Steve Brown for his Captain's Prize Day. Despite a gloomy, damp start we had a big field of nearly 80 golfers head out after they’d all checked in and received their complimentary gifts from The Captain who had also set up a hospitality tent up by the 8th tee. I have to say the homemade samosas were to die for, that’s why I kept popping up there to see if they needed anything! |

The course was looking great after some much needed rain overnight but when the sun finally came out, it was Past Captain, Past President, John Chard who claimed the stunning Captain's Cleek with an equally stunning 40 points to nudge Dave Sturt in to runners-up spot on countback. Very special thanks goes out to the generosity of The Men’s Captain (and his wife who helped in the hospitality tent) for laying on a wonderful day, from the give-away in the Pro Shop to the booze and samosas on the course to the cracking prize table for presentation. All in all a brilliant day!

Time to trade-in those old clubs… A number of you have dropped in those old unwanted clubs after last weeks email for credit in The Pro Shop, but if you still have old clubs lying around gathering dust why not drop them in. We then get a quote, you say yes or no, and then the credit goes on your Pro Shop account. The only thing we ask is that the clubs are roughly within ten or so years old and are a recognised golfing manufacture.

Putting things right Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that get overlooked. When it comes to golf, the club most used in a round is a putter so surely it's the part of the game that deserves most attention? We know this isn't a reality for many, but a combination of working hard on your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your stroke type will certainly improve your chances on the greens - two things that this promotion is all about. Thank you! I firstly wanted to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who turned up last night and gave up a couple of hours of their time divoting and repairing pitchmarks on the greens. We tackled the holes down by the clubhouse and next time we’ll venture up the top, so if you would like to give a little back to the Club lookout for the emails and posters. As was yesterday, you’ll be bought a beer as a thank you.
Thank you to all…very much appreciated.
