The Ritz comes to Epsom on the Lady Captains Prize Day
Jenny Jeffcoat, the Ladies Captains report:
‘Thankfully, the weather turned from thunder and lightning to a humid day (but dry) which was of great relief to me, following the postponement two weeks ago due to heavy rain. I have had very positive feedback on the idea of “The Ritz comes to Epsom”.
Thank you for your warm welcome to my guests, Dorothy and Nicola from the Sunnybank Trust. I know you now have a better understanding of this charity and why I chose it. All the paid workers and volunteers put in so much effort and Nicola is a shining example of what they are able to achieve. I’ve had an email from Dorothy to say how much they enjoyed coming to EGC and they are very appreciative of our fund-raising efforts. We raised £375 on the day”
|
The results of the day were as follows:
1st - Susan Pepperell - 41 points 2nd - Zhuqing Bao - 40 points 3rd - Christine Newby - 37 points NTP in Two on 14th - Eunice Smith NTP on 17th - Susan Pepperell
It sounds like a wonderful day and what a great total raised for the charity. Well done to all involved.

Men's Monthly Medal
The men this week held the Monthly Medal but with a twist as all last year’s competition winners all played for the coveted Masters Trophy, the Champions Champion if you like.
All the Masters entries teed off the 1st except for a couple of later entries which obviously proved to be the trick. After last weeks write up on how difficult the course was playing it has obviously caused you chaps to pull your socks up as the scores this week were phenomenal.
The very proud winner of The Masters Trophy was Michael Pate with an absolutely sensational nett 63, who could quite believe it himself but a very popular winner.
Pictured: Michael Pate |
|
The Monthly Medal results were as follow and again some very, very good scores:
Division One: 1st - Paul Harris - nett 65 2nd - Mark Bennett - nett 67 3rd - Dave Sturt - nett 68 Division Two: 1st - Micky Pate - nett 63 2nd - Alan Cottam - nett 64 3rd - Malcolm Walker - nett 67 |
Division Three: 1st - Paul Witten - nett 66 2nd - Tony Heat - nett 67 3rd - Chris Blackman - nett 71
Also, I have to make a special to mention to both Steve Parsons and John Phillips who carded two ‘Holes-in-One’ within 30mins of each other playing in the same swindle on Saturday. What are the chances!

The Beast Trophy
On Tuesday, eight of the Snooker competition winners who won had the chance to battle it out for ‘The Beast Trophy’, the ugliest trophy in the Prize cabinet! Ray Burton came out on top down at the magnificent Tandridge Golf Club in Oxted with 31 points. They all then headed off to Amanis Curry House (right next door to Crocky’s house) for dinner and a presentation of the trophy by celebrity Chef Reyansh All involved thanked Crocky for a great afternoon and evening.
If you want to get involved in the snooker events please speak to Crocky (Adam Crockford) and look out for the competition sign-up sheets in the next few months.

Divoting and Pitchmark Repair Party Wednesday, 10 July
If you would like to give a little bit of time back to the Club and help us maintain our fairways to the best of our ability, then The Course Committee have arranged a ‘Divoting Evening’ on Wednesday, 10 July, meet at 6.30pm. You’ll be given a bucket of soil and seed and a pitchfork, we’ll all attack one fairway and green at a time and to reward your hard work, there will be a thoroughly well-deserved pint/glass of wine and a bit of food laid on back at the clubhouse afterwards. If you could please let me know if you would like to help out, so I have an idea of numbers or add your names to the poster on the Men’s Competitions Board. |

Putting things right Sometimes, it's the most obvious things that get overlooked. When it comes to golf, the club most used in a round is a putter so surely it's the part of the game that deserves most attention? We know this isn't a reality for many, but a combination of working hard on your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your stroke type will certainly improve your chances on the greens - two things that this promotion is all about. Stylish. Smart. Sophisticated. |
With the golfing season now in full flow, we hope you’re proud to say you’re a member of the club and this fantastic course. It’s for this reason that we have a bunch of crested items in the pro shop, so why not come in for a browse next time you’re at the club? |
| Wear the badge with pride |
|
A classic piece of golfing attire is the club crested shirt, which is something we're able to offer you thanks to our friends at Glenmuir. They've been creating stylish golf clothing since 1891 and specialise in the art of cresting; so much so that the European Ryder Cup team used them for every event between 1987 and 2014. Well, their current range is an excellent combination of traditional designs with subtle detailing for that added bit of flair - like the hexagonal print detail on the Haddington's chest (fuchsia polo here). So, if you're interested, be sure to grab yourself a piece of Scottish excellence before you next head out onto the course.
