Cameron narrowly steals victory as the course bites back
The subtle changes we have been making to the golf course including fairway re-shaping, growing in rough and creating lush surrounds to the greens is now clearly starting to have an impression on the competition scoring. In this week’s Men’s Jos Smith Cup, the standard scratch of the day was plus two, 71. Possibly the highest I’ve seen it in a long time, even on a nice calm sunny day. So when the course gets tougher it does sometimes play into the lower handicappers hands. This was definitely the case with five of the top six being off single figures.
It was tight at the top with Tom Williams Jnr in third with a nett 70 and good to see Hector Gauld back in the mix with a nett 69 in runners up spot. However, it was Cameron Morris who narrowly stole the show on countback with another great 69.
Well played Cam and good work filling up the cup.

Course feedback and a big thanks to our volunteers
As I’ve said to you in previous correspondents lately, I’ve played a few times now in the past few weeks and every time I’ve come off the course and texted Craig and the greenstaff team to thank them for the way they are presenting the course week in week out. I feel the course at the moment is as good as I’ve seen it. But I also want give a massive thanks to two of our members Roger Wildig and Paul Briggs, who give up their time and regularly head round the course doing all the little jobs like pruning trees, cutting around the tee plates, blowing leaves etc, so that the greenstaff can focus on the main job of presenting the course to as high a level as possible. So a massive thanks to Roger and Paul, you’re hard work is very much appreciated. I am on a Course Walk with The Course Committee this evening to look at ideas to improve and maintain the course but if you have any suggestions or feel strongly about anything we are doing out on the golf course, please email me and I will forward your thoughts to The Course Committee.

Captain’s Summer Ball Saturday, 13 July
I do have to make a ‘slight’ correction from last week’s ‘Summer Ball’ promotion. The tickets are not in fact £400 per person and are instead £40 per person. I imagine you may have thought for that price we’d be flying Pavarotti into sing for us! However, the list is filling up fast so get your names down to avoid disappointment but if you can’t get to The club, just let me know and I’ll do it for you.
Come and enjoy a fabulous evening at The Club of fine dining, fine wine, live music and dancing. The evening kicks off with a ‘Bubbles’ Reception on the ‘Lawn’. Followed by a three-course meal, live music from Maria Herriot and Josh Vickery (last year’s Adele and was very good) and dance away the night until carriages at 1:00am.
Menu:
- Crab, prawn and avocado tian or chicken liver parfait - Seabass in white wine cream sauce and season veg or Lamb rump with red wine jus Classic Lemon posset or cheese and biscuits.
This is a Black Tie affair and is just £40 per head, so head to the entrance hall to add yours and friends names to the list.

Is there a better time than summer to be out playing golf? Silly question, really. So, now you’ve got your cap on and you’re lathered in sun lotion, it’s time to make sure the most important part of your body (arguably) is protected: your eyes. |
| Oakley Mercenary sunglasses
|
|
UV protection You don’t need us to tell you that staring straight at the sun is not the smartest idea, but these sunglasses come with UV protection to keep those harmful rays at bay.
|
Enhanced vision The best thing about the Mercenary is that it comes with Oakley's Dark Prizm lenses, which help to improve colour, contrast and detail for maximum clarity on the course.
|
Stylish look Last but by no means least, these sunnies are incredibly stylish with a modern frame and larger lens shape, meaning you'll happily wear them all day long.
|
|
Looking for something else? If the Mercenary doesn't tickle your fancy then not to worry, we have a huge collection of Oakley sunglasses available online to get delivered to store for you to pick up at your convenience - simply click on the button below to browse the range. |
