Course update As most of you are probably aware the course is closed today (Thursday) and tomorrow for our Flagship event, our Annual Pro-Am. We have 36 teams competing and Craig, despite some weather challenges, has got the course in tip-top condition. He has been up against it in the last month or so, as due to temperatures, growth has been very limited and quite sporadic. This is the main reason why we have been lacking in pace on the greens for the early part of the season as we didn’t have consistent growth on the greens to allow us to take the length of cut down. Craig was finally able to do this only last Tuesday afternoon after the Ladies Spring Meeting and the change was instant. Now, I know there is always rumbling of ‘we only get the greens quick for the Pro-Am’. Yes, we do try and get the greens and the entire course exceptional because we are both showcasing the course but also as this is what is expected by Professional golfers at an event. But you must understand that to get the course peaked takes extra man hours and double cutting of the greens in the run up to the event. To continue to double cut the greens for the entire season WILL stress the grass and we will eventually see the quality of the greens deteriorate. However, I have been out around the course this week before the double cutting has taken place and the pace was right up even then, but more importantly the quality of the surface was superb. The level thought the rest of the season will remain consistently high as we now expect from our superb Greenkeeping team. Now of course we always get the course look fantastic and then The Derby rolls into town, so I’ve written to the Jockey Club and asked them to move their event to December...I’ll keep you informed of their response.
