I’d like to kick off this week’s newsletter, and I’m sure I speak on behalf of the entire Club, by offering our massive thanks and appreciation to our Ladies and Men’s Captains.
Julie Burgess and Alan Bradbrook have done a wonderful job in their year in office and have given so much time and effort to make yet another fantastic year at the Club, they have worked incredibly hard to raise a small fortune for their respective charities and have been great ambassadors for the Club on their travels. I know they have both enjoyed their year and thoroughly deserve a well-earned breather after this weekend Captain Drive-In, when we welcome Jenny Jeffcoat and Steve Brown into office.
I’ve checked the weather forecast and Sunday looks good, so whether you’re playing in The Garrett Cup or not, why not come up to the Club and support the new Captains on their big day. The actual Drive-in is normally around 2:00pm (ish), we look forward to seeing you all there and I believe there are still spaces for Sunday lunch afterwards if you really want to make a day of it.
Enjoy the rest of this week's read. |

Shock defeat in local Derby
On Saturday the men played local rivals, Cuddington Golf Club, in what is always a fiercely but thoroughly enjoyable contest and I have to say in recent years the coveted crystal decanter has mostly remained in our trophy cabinet. Myself and the Men’s Captain unfortunately came up against a Cuddington Captain who appeared to have the round of his life and we were royally turned over as were too many of the rest of the team and it was with a heavy heart that Alan had to hand the decanter over to our rivals. However, it was a great day and I left most of them in the bar enjoying the day until the end. (Don’t worry, we’ll get it back in October in the return match!) |
|
Florida Scramble On Sunday we held the Men’s Florida Scramble, a four man scramble event with the Florida bit basically meaning if your ball is selected you step out of that round of shots. The idea is it makes the scramble format a little quicker…..apparently? It was a family affair in the winning enclosure with The Shines and Carl Parker picking up first place.

Captains Drive-In and Sunday Lunch Sunday, 17 March
One of the biggest and busiest days of the year so whether you’re playing in The Garrett Cup or not you are welcome to watch the oldest tradition in the club. The outgoing Captains putt out on the 18th green and then hand the balls over to the in-coming Captains who then, sometimes a little nervously, drive the ball up the 18th fairway to mark the start of their wonderful year. I am hoping I won’t be clearing a path through the snow as I did last year for this one but get this one in the diary as it’s a wonderful day. And why not complete the day with a lovely Sunday Roast after 9 or before all the festivities. Two course lunch £18.00 with under 12’s for £12.00. |
Monday Quiz Night Monday, 18 March
The next quiz night is on Monday, 18 March with food being served from 6:30pm, first question 8:00pm. Spaces available for teams of four, £2 a head, a fun evening. Sign-up sheet is on the Entertainments Notice Board. Please get yourself along, that’s if there’s still space, as I promised our Quiz Master I’d tell you all about it was week…..naughty me.

Motocaddy has always been at the forefront of trolley innovation, with the world's first GPS electric trolley amongst their ranks. Well, this year they’ve made some significant upgrades to the immensly popular S1 model, which we think you're going to love. |
| New Motocaddy S1 electric trolley (2019) |
|
We don't like using the term 'entry level' to describe the new S1 as it offers so much more than what this suggests. At first glance, you'll take a liking to its modernised styling and graphics, which will really help make it stand out from other trolleys on the market. Then you get to its technology: new and improved sunlight-friendly LCD display, nine speed settings, advanced battery meter so you needn't worry about it running out mid-round without knowing, and a super-lightweight Lithium battery to name but a few. The new S1 for 2019 is as good as it gets at this price point, so pop in-store to take a look and get one in your hands. |
