A record breaking week at Epsom GC I think I’m going to have to instruct our Head Greenkeeper to start putting the pins in some trickier positions (if possible) after the run we’ve had at the club this week. A hole-in-one is still quite a rare thing and maybe you’d get a couple in a week. However, to have FOUR aces in six days must be some sort of record. The run started on Saturday when Ben Northeast popped a wedge in on the 3rd and this was then followed by NEW member Steve Moore who recorded his first ever hole-in-one on Sunday (the expensive one) on the 17th.
Then yesterday, Charlie Loftus hit a fantastic shot into the 17th for another ace and finally not to be outdone David Lower slammed in a wonderful eight iron on the 12th to make it a recorded breaking week. Well played gents and thank you for making the Bar takings rather healthy this week.

On Sunday we held the final round of the Men’s Winter League with the dreaded ‘Aggregate Medal’ round which certainly separated the men from the boys. The winners of this tough format were the very colourful Richard Halifax and partner Ernie Covington who blew the rest of the field out of the water with a superb 132, to win by a whopping seven clear strokes from runners up Steve ‘Hole-in-one’ Moore and Gareth Spencer. The presentation will be made for the overall title on The Captain’s Drive In Sunday in a couple of weeks’ time. |

The ladies didn’t have it to easy this week either as their format was the equally difficult Bogey/Par competition which is generally thought to be against the course, of which the course normally wins. Not this week, as Diana Balsdon smashed in a fantastic plus six for the win edging out Clair Morris and Kay Briggs who both scored an impressive plus three and earning her a nice handicap cut.

US Open Qualifier marshalling volunteers needed
I have just put up the sign-up sheet for volunteers for marshalling for this year’s US Open Qualifier at Walton Heath GC on Monday, 3 June. The roles are scoreboard duties, crowd marshalling and walking scorers and you can do AM, PM or both if you feel up to it. You will be fed and watered on the day and receive a courtesy round at Walton Heath GC for your efforts. I have put a sign-up sheet up on both the gents and ladies competition boards. |
Captain’s Farewell Bash Saturday, 2 March
This event is pretty much full up but if required I can squeeze another tee if you’d still like to play. It’s a shotgun start, team of four, ‘best two…best three’ scores competition with plenty of nearest the pins and a nice bit of lunch afterwards. Why not come and say a big thank you for all the great work our Ladies and Men’s Captains have put in this year? £12.50 per head, including food and prizes, head to men’s competition board to sign up. |
Men’s Club Supper Friday, 15 March
Time to dust off the tuxedos and come and support the Men’s Captain in his final event. We have a beautiful three course meal prepared by Chef Bev and this will be followed by speeches and the now customary game of ‘killer’ in the Snooker Room. It’s always a great night so get yourselves along and enjoy a cracking night at the club. £35.00 per head and the sign-up poster is in the entrance hall.

Captains Drive-In and Sunday Lunch Sunday, 17 March
One of the biggest and busiest days of the year so whether you’re playing in The Garrett Cup or not you are welcome to watch the oldest tradition in the club. The outgoing Captains putt out on the 18th green and then hand the balls over to the in-coming Captains who then, sometimes a little nervously, drive the ball up the 18th fairway to mark the start of their wonderful year. I am hoping I won’t be clearing a path through the snow as I did last year for this one but get this one in the diary as it’s a wonderful day. And why not complete the day with a lovely Sunday Roast after 9 or before all the festivities. Two course lunch £18.00 with under 12’s for £12.00. |
Mother’s Day Lunch Sunday, 31 March
It’s time to treat mum so why not enjoy a lovely two course Roast lunch at the club. A two course lunch is £19.00 and all Mums get a complimentary glass of bubbles. Booking is essential so please head to the Entertainments board to book.

It’s time to get ‘gapped’ for your wedges
The scoring end of the game often comes down to judging distances heading into greens and so therefore it is important that you have all those lower yardages covered.
Please drop in to the Pro Shop and we can have a look at your wedge situation as it stands currently, hit some shots in the Studio and access what wedges are then required to fill those gaps or simply replace old wedges that you may have.
This is a sure-fire way of shaving some shots off your rounds. We have a full range of Titleist Vokey wedges, with all lofts and bounces full covered.
Contact the Pro Shop on 01372 741 867 for more details.

We all love new golf equipment – be it balls, clubs or shoes; there’s nothing like stepping out onto the course knowing that everything in your bag is in pristine condition. Except, for the majority of golfers, there’s always one thing which is often forgotten about... |
| How old are your grips? |
| Losing control during your swing? |
|
If you pulled a club out of your bag now, what state would your grips be in? You’ll probably notice that they’re at the very least losing some of the tackiness they once had or, in the worst cases, worn away so badly that they’re completely unrecognizable - a clear sign they need to be replaced. The benefits to getting your clubs regripped are huge, and they can even improve your performance. Take the ALIGN grips from Golf Pride; these have a raised edge on the back (red part of grip seen here) to perfect your hand placement every time. |
|
As you can see, we're currently running a promotion where you can get your 7-iron regripped for FREE; all you need to do is pop in-store and decide which of these grips you want to try out. |
