Welcome to the final newsletter of the year. Before we dive into our latest news, we'd like to say a massive thank you to all of you who have supported our golf club over the past year; your support is so important to our success, and for that we are truly grateful. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy this week’s read! |
A huge thank you from Epsom GC
I would like to take this opportunity to thank ‘Life Members’, Geoff and Rita Collins who have just donated two brand new leaf blowers to the greenstaff. We have a couple of these essential bits of kit that were on their very last legs, so the Collins’s very generous gift to the club is very much appreciated. Thank you, Rita and Geoff, from all at the club.

The biggest Turkey Trot yet
With a record 124 teeing it up on the Sunday and another 52 playing in those brutal conditions on Saturday, totalled up to the biggest field we’ve had for the Turkey Trot. It’s such a great event to host at the club with lots of you making the effort with many, many Christmas jumpers on display but the atmosphere it creates is second to none.
I personally enjoyed it, especially as I pulled into the team, two old Pro Shop faces in the shape of Dave and big Nathan. We just got in the prizes but when you’re not receiving a single shot in texas scramble it does make it a little tricky. If any of you noticed the horrible conditions on Saturday, you’ll understand why only one of the teams made it into the prizes. Character building, they call it apparently.
|
However, what a difference a day makes with the sun shining on Sunday when we all teed off and as usual the sound of popping bottles of bubbly was being heard all round the golf course. Us being last out, we came into a lovely atmosphere of a clubhouse, packed to the rafters with everyone full of plenty of festive spirit
The scores at Turkey Trot always shock me as to how low they can go and this year was no change with the winning score of a staggering nett 53 was produced by the winning team of Tony Heat, Disco Dell, Phil Hughes and Rich’ The Master’ Halifax. |
|
We also on such a big and busy occasion like to present the trophies to the winners of the years knock-out competitions and first up was the Brodie Helder Pairs Foursomes Knock and this was won by Father and son combo, Pat and Alex Inns. |
|
We then had the Bessell Edwards Mixed Foursomens Trophy and this was won by Denah Shah and last year’s Captain, David Barnett. David didn’t have far to go before he was being called up to collect the Individual Scratch Knockout where he beat his old rival and mucker Declan O’Brien in the final. |
Sunday was not only reserved for the adults of the club as our juniors had a big presentation as well which was kicked off by some great words for our Junior Captain, Patrick Murray. He spoke about earlier in the year when our Junior Team headed off to play in the final of The Surrey Fairways competition. This, of course, they won in style and it was fantastic to see all the competitor come up and receive their trophies to rapturous applause. Looks like the club’s in good shape for the future.

A big thank you to our greenkeepers
I hope you will all agree that despite some very trying conditions our course has been in great condition this year again under the leadership of our Head Greenkeeper, Craig Russell and his staff Miroslav and Nick.
If you would like to buy them a drink or show your appreciation, I have put a Christmas box in the Pro Shop on the right-side of the counter. Thank you in advance from the boys.
