Club news

Timber!

I want to start this week with some course news but before that I’d like to say a huge thank you to Mike Dowdell and the Longdown Lottery who agreed to fund the purchase of our NEW long arm chainsaw which now enables the boys to a lot more tree work this Winter.

The Course Committee working with our Head Greenkeeper have created a comprehensive tree work programme to take place over the next few months to improve on the following:

Air movement across the course to improve quality of greens
Sunlight to shaded areas to help tee boxes
Line of sight from teeing areas|

But don’t panic, the tree in the middle of the 3rd and the ugly Hawthorne in the middle of the 14th won’t be coming down. The Club played away Cuddington GC recently and they have removed 3000 trees of varying sizes for all the same reasons I have mentioned so it is essential work to maintain the quality of growth around the course.

Competition news

Epsom vs Cuddington

As I mentioned the Club played the away leg of the local derby vs Cuddington GC on Saturday after bashing them up on the home leg rather convincingly.

It was a lovely day topped off by a halved match which meant we brought the coveted Decanter back to its rightful home, our trophy cabinet!

Men's Winter League

The Men’s Winter League series kicked of this week with the biggest field I’ve seen for some years.

Round one is traditionally always St. Andrews Foursomes which often thought as a tricky format but clearly not by the scores that came in on Sunday.

Top of the pile was that dynamic duo again, Tom Williams Snr and Jnr who amassed a whopping 48 points but this was only a point ahead of runners up Tom and Ed Shine on 47. Some amazing golf gents!

This Sundays start sheet is again up in the eighties but if you are still looking for a game please let me know here and I will endeavour to find you a partner.

Coaching news

Ladies Coaching - Every Thursday at 10:00am

It was a lovely session this morning covering delicate chip shots and the bump and run. The ladies head out this afternoon to play and practice what we covered.

The Ladies Roll Up is open to all lady golfers, members and non-members alike. It’s a great way to meet up, learn, play and have a coffee (or glass of wine) afterwards.

Wrap up warm

I have to mention, sorry, that this weekend I won’t be around as I am lucky enough to be flying up to St Andrews for three days golf with two past Captains, but not before layering up in all the NEW winter clothing in the shop, I hear it’s going to be a bit chilly.

We have a selection of Back Tee, ProQuip and Under Armour clothing available in store. It's all here ready to keep you all warm this winter.

Go the distance

We've all been there - around 75 yards out and faced with a tricky little pitch shot towards a tight pin; danger over the back and a tier just before the flag that will take anything short down to the front edge.
