Jos Smith Cup
The men this week played for the Jos Smith Cup and it was great to see so many NEW members playing that have come through the buddy and flexible membership schemes. The scores were incredibly impressive this week with several players going way under their handicaps, but out in front we had Ray Burton and Declan O’Brien both returning fantastic nett 65’s. So a countback was required and Declan, who also shot a gross 71, just managed to nick in on the back nine, but superb golf from both. I’d also like to mention the man in third place, Carl Parker still manged to return a nett 66 despite having to play off four less than his 28 handicap to qualify for the competition. However, happy to say that he has now been cut to 24 after Sunday. Some cracking golf out there gents. |

Morse Millennium Vase The ladies this week competed in a strokeplay event for the Morse Millennium Vase. It was a very healthy field and the scores were equal to it. There was another countback for second and third both with nett 72’s, with Clair Partridge ending up in third and Jean Kenny in runners-up spot. So top of the pile with a cracking nett 70 was Clair Morris. Congratulation Clair… back to winning ways! |

Pro Shop Summer Scramble – Sunday, 29 July I’ve just put the sheet up for this FUN event, it is open to all lady, male and junior full and flexible members. I have also added that you can invite a friend from outside the club, if you wish, to come and experience a famous Epsom Sunday. There is a lovely buffet breakfast from 7:20am with a shotgun start at 8:45am. Team prizes and nearest the pins around the course and breakfast are all in for £12.50/£50 per team of four. These days are always very popular so get your teams allocated to your favourite starting holes before they go.

Men’s Captain’s Day – Sunday, 8 July Come and enjoy a lovely Sunday hosted by your Men’s Captain, Alan Bradbrook. It’s an individual stableford competition with nearest the pins all around the course and Alan has some goodies to hand out for all those playing. After golf we are having a BBQ on the terrace and all friends and families are more than welcome to come up for a bite to eat. So get you names down and make this a great day as the Captain’s Days always are.

Course update The extreme weather is causing the course to burn up in places, but is still playing beautifully. However after seeing what has happened on the news over on The Moors, I would ask those who smoke on the golf course to be especially careful putting out cigarettes. It only takes one! Next Thursday, we have a contractor coming in to give our irrigation system a thorough examination and rectify a few issues. Therefore from early in the morning he will have to test each green as he goes round. So please be aware and give the contractor and our Head Greenkeeper the time they need. However, in this heat the odd spray may be quite refreshing. Thank you for your co-operation.

Short Game Group Coaching Session - Wednesday, 4 June at 6:00pm I am introducing a Monthly Short Game Group Coaching Session and each month we will look at the various elements that make up an all-round short game. The classes will be 60 minutes and limited to six golfers per group. The first session will cover the art of pitching and distance control and we will look at technique and club selection. The classes will start at 6:00pm and be followed by a drink in the bar to discuss what has been learnt and applied in the session. £10 per golfer and please contact the pro shop here to book your place. You will also see that from the practice mats I have created targets for you to come up and hone your skills. You can use your own balls or borrow my yellow practice balls but please collect all after use.

Which bracket do you fall in? |
There’s one thing that you'll always need in abundance when playing golf and that’s balls - and plenty of them. Each golf ball we sell offers different levels of feel and performance at varying price points, meaning we have something to offer all playing preferences and budgets. |
| Bang for your buck Balls at a cheaper price point usually have one key performance benefit rather than offering a little of everything. This Callaway Warbird follows the trend by offering maximum distance with your longer clubs thanks to its aerodynamic dimples and high-energy core, giving you lots of power for little expenditure. |
| The all-rounder If you’re looking for more balanced performance through the bag but without the premium price tag, this Callaway Supersoft ball is designed to be long, straight and soft. It doesn’t spin as much as the Chrome Soft, but its low compression core helps create long, high flights that land softly. |
| Tour performance The saying 'you get what you pay for' certainly applies when it comes to golf balls. Callaway's Chrome Soft is their premium option, and it's easy to see why, with a soft urethane cover for short-game spin and a graphene-infused core that boosts ball speed and provides more iron control. |
