Welcome to another edition of your pro shop weekly newsletter with all the latest news and gossip from Epsom Golf Club. |
On the Course... Wow… what a difference a bit of sunshine makes. The past few days have been so busy at club, at the weekend we hosted our Open Weekend which was a great success with over 80 outside golfers visiting the club. The feedback I’ve had from the guests was incredibly positive with a few signing up then and there. I’d like to especially thank all of our members who played in the Geen Salver/Alternative Stableford on Sunday morning who created such a superb atmosphere in the clubhouse at lunchtime as many of the Open Weekend guests came through. One chap said, and I quote, ‘wow… you don’t often see golf clubs like this anymore’. So thank you to all for letting others experience Epsom’s unique atmosphere. Now for the results of the two competitions mentioned, firstly the Geen Salver. This is a drawn Mixed Foursomes Competition and there were some great scores for this tricky format, but the winners way out in front with 41 points were the pair of Nifa Vaz and Paul Hague. An especially good/expensive day for Paul as he managed to card a hole-in-one on the 17th. He actually scored a one nett -1 for five points on the hole, certainly helped the cause. Paul’s fourth ace I believe... very impressive! The Alternative Stableford was tight at the top with Ant Seymour and Bill Allison on 40 points, but just nudging his nose out in front was Richard Foot with 41 points earning him a handicap cut to 17.

The holes-in-one kept coming, only 24 hours later in the Seniors vs. Ladies match on Monday morning, Past Lady Captain Sally Morton also ‘aced’ the 17th. This was Sally’s second hole-in-one, the first coming during her round when she first joined all those years ago, needless to say she had no problem getting in! Well done Sally. |
The ladies this week played for the Holiday Cup, a stableford event with a big field over the Saturday and Tuesday with some very good scoring to boot. It was a very close run thing with Jane Baker and Sue Brown both hitting 40 points, but it was Sue that just nicked it on countback. Very well played ladies. |
Course update With the sun coming out in the last few days the grass growth has gone crazy and the green staff are currently buzzing around out there getting the course looking great again. I’m very happy to say that the rear area to the 18th green is now back in play and looks superb.
Ive had a few members ask me about getting the tee boxes back in play and I can assure you that we will get them back as soon as we feel that they are ready. If you think, the grass has literally just started growing up here on the Downs and although they have just been cut and look great, we’d just like to give them a little more time to strengthen up ready for what I feel will be a very busy season ahead. Especially the 2nd and 12th tee boxes that really suffer with lack of sunlight. We appreciate your patience, but they will be worth the wait.

The 3rd generation is almost here Landing in-store early next month will be the brand new XR Speed driver and fairway wood from Callaway. The main attribute of the range is the increase in speed, which ultimately leads to greater distance – something we are all looking for. With ladies and men’s options available, click on the button below if you want to be one of the first golfers to try it out. |

St George's Day Sixes – Sunday, 22 April If you’re not running the London Marathon this Sunday and fancy a game then I still have a few spots available in this event. It is open to all full members (inclduing Flexi), and is a four man/woman, shotgun start (8:45am), Sixes Competition (that is best two scores on first six holes, best three and then all four). £5 entry and even if you’re not a team of four let me know and I’ll endeavour to get you in.

Pro-Am 2018 – Friday, 18 May I can’t believe that our flagship event is already only a month away, the members entry sheet is filling up nicely on the men’s competition board with only a few spots left. Member’s teams only have to contain one member, so a great opportunity to invite up a couple of friends for a fantastic day of great golf (hopefully), great food, great prizes and fingers crossed celebratory drinks. Members team - £180 payable in the office of behind the bar. If you have a group of non-members who would like to enter a team, they would be more than welcome at £270 per team. Please contact me and I will send them an entry form. These events are pulled together by a real team effort and if you would like to volunteer to help out in either preparation the day before or actually on the day please contact Roger Wildig (rwildig@yahoo.co.uk). You will be suitably fed and watered for your kind efforts.

Consider a smart new look |
As it seems to do every year, the Masters has ignited the season and prompted many of you to dust off your clubs and take to the course. If this is you and you haven't been in the shop recently, make sure you come and take a look around as we have some fantastic new products sitting on the shelves, including our club crested range of apparel. This Glenmuir Hatfield polo is a great option as it combines a modern look with subtle detail to create a really stylish shirt. It's made from high-performance stretch fabric that is manufactured to work with your swing; a huge benefit of buying golf-specific clothing from us rather than a cheap polo from the high street. |
