Well I made it back from a week’s skiing in one piece, we had a fantastic time although after just a few days I was trying to hang on to the coat-tails of my nine year old son… The fearlessness of youth! So I believe the weather hasn’t been too clever while I’ve been away, but just coming back in from a playing lesson, the course has held up remarkably well. The fairways and greens are bone dry which can’t be said for most other clubs in the region. It’s the first day that it actually feels like we're coming out of winter… at last. With the temperatures starting to climb the grass is also finally starting to grow. The greens staff will be out tomorrow verti-cutting which is a process to get the grass standing up for a better cut and also remove some of the dead moss. Myself and the Head Greenkeeper are due to head out on the course to look at shaping more of the fairways and I honestly think the course this year will look the best you've seen it. Watch this space!

On the Course... On Sunday we held the re-scheduled Garret Cup from the snowed off Captain’s Drive-in Sunday. I have always looked at The Garrett Cup as one of the 'Majors’ here at the club and as you’d expect there was a very healthy field of over 80. There were some very good scores with four 68’s and a 67, but way out in front with a spectacular nett 65 was Colin Harris. Now I’m not saying this was completely down to his brand new bag of TaylorMade clubs he only collected last week, but judging by the numbers he was generating in the Swing Studio it has made a big difference. However, new clubs or not, the person on the end still has to swing them, so a big congratulations to Colin for a cracking round. |

The ladies competition this week was a very close run finish in some testing conditions. They were playing a medal round for the Centenary Cup and the winner, just managing to poke her nose in front after a countback, was Kay Briggs with a nett 69, pipping Kimberly Munro. A super win for Kay, it must be all the pilates she does at the club on Thursday mornings (9:00am – 10:00am every Thursday, ask in the pro shop for more details and how to book).

Local derby win for the new Men’s Captain... What better way for the NEW Men’s Captain Alan Bradbrook to kick off his year than to bash up local rivals, Cuddington Golf Club, 6 - 2 on Saturday to keep the coveted crystal decanter in its rightful home in our trophy cabinet. Alan’s also looking to stretch his winning streak this coming Saturday as the chaps take on other local rivals Banstead Downs Golf Club. Good luck to all playing and I’ll let you know the result next week.

Open weekend at Epsom Golf Club – Saturday, 14 March and Sunday, 15 March Our chance to show off the outside world what a wonderful club we have here at Epsom. Tee times are available at a specially discounted rate of £10 for the public, but if I was you I’d take advantage and invite up a guest as the guest rate is normally £25 at weekends. We have plenty to promote with new membership categories and course improvements, so please pass this on to friends and family if you think they’d like to experience the enjoyment of the club that you do. Call the pro shop to book or click here for more details.

Put your name up in lights |
It only comes around once a year and it’s that time again - Masters week! The first Major of the year takes place at Augusta National this week, which we always take as a sign that the season is getting underway. With this in mind, we have one question for you: are you ready to play your best golf this year? |
Maximise your potential We've all sat looking at the honours boards in a clubhouse before, admiring the one name that appears to be on most and thinking 'wow, they must be pretty good!' Well, how good would it feel if that name up in lights was yours? If you come and speak to us we can talk about your strengths, weaknesses and goals for this season and look at the best way to help you achieve them, whether that’s a one-off fault-fixer lesson, regular sessions to aid your consistency or perhaps a look at your equipment. |
