Hello golfers, Welcome to another edition of your pro shop weekly newsletter with all the latest news and gossip from Epsom Golf Club.

A fond farewell… As we draw to the end of another fantastic club year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our two Captains for a terrific year. Both Sue and David have been wonderful ambassadors for our club and have also managed to raise a £3139 for their chosen charity, Headway. They have both hosted some wonderful days this year and what they have done in their time in office is so vital to the continued positivity throughout the club. I personally have thoroughly enjoyed my Captain and Pro matches with David, with only one minor blemish to the record but we won’t dwell on that. It’s been a great year and I hope you both have many, many fond and happy memories.

As a final swansong, on Saturday they both hosted The Captain’s Farewell Bash and it was lovely to see so many of you out there supporting them both. The format was best two and best three scores to count and from the reaction as the teams headed in, everyone had a real fun time. Bev had prepared some lovely comfort food which was washed down with a few beers and bottles of vino. The scores that came in were mixed is the politest way to put it, but everybody had a great time which is the main thing. Congratulations to the winners (listed below) and thank you again to the Captains on hosting a final cracking day, and a final best wishes to the incoming Captains, Julie Burgess, Alan Bradbrook and Junior Skipper Patrick Murray. Get up here on Sunday to support them drive-in, but do wrap up as it might be a bit chilly... - 1st - Graham Wharton, Anita Richardson-Smith, Shirley Kennett and Dave Kennett.
- 2nd - Alan Bradbrook, Alan Rhodes, Peter Killick and Dave Sturt.
- 3rd - Geraldine Scanlon, Steve Wheal, Julie Burgess and Richard Foot.

Mother's Day Stableford I can safely say that for the Men’s Captain, David Barnett, it’s not been a bad year. Talk about cram it all in, getting married, building a new house, being Captain of the golf club you’ve grown up in and then winning the Club Championship. Not bad I think you’ll agree and I think, David, I’ve got that politically in the right order. So what better way to finish it off by winning the final competition of your year? He took Sundays Mother’s Day Stableford with a level par, 39 points and finishes his year on a 3.1 handicap. Not too shabby! |

Restaurant update I would like to offer my congratulations to all the kitchen staff, Tina and Robert Munro of the house committee as the club has just been granted FIVE stars for our Food Hygiene Rating. |

An important weekend coming up at the club... Starting on Friday, 16 March we have one of the busiest and most important weekends in the club's diary. Friday night is the Men’s Club Supper, a black tie event and a great send off for our out-going Captain, David Barnett. We have a fine three course meal followed by speeches from our members and guests and traditionally the odd drop of wine may be savoured, but is always a great night.
Saturday early evening the club will be hosting the Annual AGM and this is an opportunity to hear how the club is doing, learn of future plans and enjoy seeing the NEW Ladies and Gent's Captain’s being voted in. There are always some serious matters that need voting on, your vote and your opinion is very important to us so please attend. The following day the men head out in the morning to play in The Garrett Cup, which I think we can safely say is one of the Majors and a beautiful trophy. This is then followed by ‘The Driving-in’ of the two new Captains. Tradition dictates that the old Captain’s putts out on the 18th green hands the ball to the in-coming Captain, who then proceeds to (hopefully) blast it back up the 18th. This normally takes place in front of 150 or more so can be a little nervy at times. So even if you’re not playing in the morning, please pop up for a drink and cheer in the new Captains and what better way to round of a cracking weekend than a lovely Sunday lunch upstairs. The booking sheet will be up on the entertainments board if you would like to invite friends and family up to experience Epsom’s fantastic atmosphere and a beautiful Sunday roast.

From rain and thermal options to tour-favoured leather and more budget-friendly synthetic, there are lots of gloves for you to consider, which is why we’re here to lend a helping hand. |
Tour favourite Why do tour players choose leather? Well, leather gloves offer the best feel with the traction you need to generate power. It’s also moisture resistant so will stay soft for longer. One glove that fits the bill perfectly is the Callaway Tour Authentic glove that is worn on tour. It’s made from premium cabretta leather for responsive feel with great grip, while perforations on the fingers and thumb increase breathability so you don’t get a sweaty hand. |
|
Great value Synthetic materials are stretchy and lightweight, so suit a golf glove perfectly. They’re often used alongside leather palm sections to enhance flexibility, while they should also be more durable than leather models at the cost of a little less feel. Why not come and try the Callaway Xtreme 365 glove? Its Opti-Flex material is designed to offer great feel, flexibility and increased durability for improved grip in all weather conditions. |
