Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we explore how often you hit the fairway compared to tour pros, we review how Justin Thomas was this season's best golfer, and we also have a video from a European Tour favourite. Enjoy the read.

Competition news

On the Course...

On Sunday we held our second Mixed Geen Salver of the year. It was great to see a few more playing and it was also nice to see the the Morris’s gave someone else a turn at picking up the silverware. On top of the pile was the formidible pairing of Ladies ViceCaptain Julie Burgess and David Taylor.

The men played an Alternative stableford and coming out on top was Mike Hunter with 36 points. A mention must also go to past Captain Adrian Northeast who got the ONLY two, very rare but worthy of picking up three dozen balls.

It's interesting as I have been looking at the scores over the last month or so and I've noticed that the winning scores have been coming down. Normally 36 points wouldn’t even get you in the top five, but testament to our new Head Greenkeeper Craig and his team, the course is definitley getting tougher. The fairways are shaped and tighter and if you miss a green now it's no longer a case of just getting out the putter and bumbling it on, the surrounds are now long and defined grass which now puts more focus on a good short game and using more lofted wedges. The course looks great and long may it continue.

Club events

Season Finale at Epsom Racecourse - Sunday, 1 October

As I mentioned in my newsletter last week, we have started to set up a relationship with the racecourse and the first of some of the benefits our members will receive is FREE entry into selected race meetings, starting with the season finale on Sunday, 1 October. The first race is 2:00pm and looks like being a great day out for you and family friends. Ladies vs. Men - Saturday, 7 October (10:00 am start)

Pairs matchplay Battle of the Sexes! The sign-up sheet is on the men's competition board.

Rod Stewart Tribute Night - Saturday, 7 October (From 7:00pm)

Come and enjoy a great night of live music. The evening kicks off at 7:00pm and there is an option to pre-order food at £7.50 per head and then the performance starts at 8:30pm. Tickets are purchased from the bar at £11 per person and please add your names to the list in the entrance hall. Why not make a day of it and play in the men vs the ladies and then just keep going?

Family Cup and Generation Cup - Sunday, 15 October

Two new events to encourage family golf here at the club. Firstly The Family Cup is open to any member and any member of their immediate family or relation, adult or junior is fine and they will receive a complimentary round. The format is pairs betterball stableford and entry is £10 per pair.
Secondly, a competition aimed at the younger ones. The Generation Cup is a nine hole greensomes event open to parents and children, again only one has to be a member. Each child will receive a gift for playing. I'll be there with my little boy so why not get involved? Both sign-up sheets are on the men's competition board.

Captain's Mid-week Charity Day - Thursday, 19 October

Always a very popular event and open to all sections of the club. The format is a four to a team Texas Scramble with a shotgun start at 9:00am. A buffet lunch and presentation of prizes will follow golf, so please again head to the men's competition board and add your team to the hole of your choice. A great day which always raises much needed money for the Captain's charities. £50 per team of four (Including food and prizes).

Quiz Night - Monday, 23 October

Our ever popular quiz nigh hosted by our resident quiz master David Hylton. First question at 8:00pm, head to the entertainments board to enter your team.

Since last year’s TOUR Championship, Justin Thomas has conjured up five wins – including his maiden Major victory at the USPGA – and seven other top 10 finishes; results that have seen him rise up to fourth in the World Golf Rankings while cementing himself as one of golf’s brightest stars.

These performances, culminating in a runner-up finish in last week's season-ending TOUR Championship, saw Thomas take the top spot in the FedEx Cup (the PGA Tour’s OOM) and the juicy $10 million bonus that goes along with that.
