Competition news

Tritton Cup

This weekend saw a change in the format to par bogey which is a good old matchplay against the course. With only six members managing to beat the course, the winner was Brian Dobson who managed to beat the course 4Up, followed by John Cresswell and John Chard who won by 2Up. Well done to everyone who managed to beat the course and as well to Mick Peddie and Simon Jones who were the only players to manage a two and received six sleeves of balls each.

Upcoming events

The all new Cross Country Competition - Friday, 18 August

This Friday we will be introducing a brand new event not ever seen at the club before. The Cross Country is exactly what it says on the tin and as you can see from the course map pictured, it should be a lot of fun. It’s a nine hole, team of four Texas Scramble competition starting with a shotgun start at 5:30pm. We have included a buffet supper for after the game and the cost for a team of four is £40 including food and prizes. The competition is open to all, but there are limited spaces and, with the list nearly full up, you’ll need to get your names down soon to avoid disappointment.

Caribbean Night – Saturday, 19 August

This is looking like being a fantastic night at the club and the list in the entrance hall is filling up nicely. It must be the draw of our very own superstar, DJ Richard Halifax. So invite some friends and head up for a great evening of food and dancing.

TaylorMade Demo Day – Wednesday, 23 August

Spaces are going fast to try the latest TaylorMade M1 and M2 range. TaylorMade have a massive presence in the market at the moment and the reason being is because it’s an exceptional product. The numbers of the M2 range – the most popular and useable - on the simulator are fantastic for both distance and accuracy. Callaway Performance Fitting Centre – Chessington.

We are lucky enough to have The Callaway Performance Centre on at doorstep down at The Barwell Estate in Chessington, literally opposite Chessington World of Adventures.

We can book you a session, at no cost, to be fitted by the same guys who fit the Callaway Tour players. It’s a great experience and you’ll feel like a ‘kid in a candy shop’, a quote from Past Captain Roy Chegwin, who had a great session down there recently organising some woods and hybrids. I’m sure Roy won’t mind chatting to you about his experience. I, or Adam, will accompany you down there when we can to help in any way or simply add a friendly face.

Please call or pop in to the pro shop and we can look at the live Callaway booking system and get you booked in. As I say, it’s a great experience and all your specs are immediately sent over to me so there is no sales pressure and you can decide at your own convenience.

Choose the right ball

Not only is playing with the same model of golf ball each round important for your consistency, but you need to make sure that you’re taking to the course with a ball that suits your game and feel preferences. Comparing different balls is a great way to narrow down what you are after.

Scoring system

During a chat about your goals, price range and personal preferences we can make a few ball recommendations for you to go and try. Why not use the above scoring system when out on the course to determine which ball is best for your game?

SHORT GAME FIRST

Side-by-side testing should make it easier to notice any preferences you have, but if you don’t have a clear winner we’d always recommend prioritising the ball you prefer around the greens, as this is where you take the majority of your shots and what influences your final score the most.
