What A Day At The Epsom Pro Am!
On Friday last week we hosted our flagship event, The Epsom Pro Am 2017 and what a great day we had. The weather turned out to be superb and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our green staff, Craig, Alan and new lad Jordan. They turned out a golf course that was presented the best I've ever seen it look and it's always nice to get the same comments from visiting Professionals who have been playing the event for years. Great work Boys.
This year we had 38 teams entered, made up of members, guests and corporate sponsors' teams and the atmosphere as always was fantastic on the day. I set the pin positions with Craig the day before and we'd set it up for someone to get some good scores going, and that they did.
In the Professionals event there were some fine scores being returned and at the end of the day the winners, both shooting course records equalling 65s, were Craig Sutherland and David Callaway. There was also a 66 and sitting in 4th on 67 (-3) was your very own Club Professional. There's still a bit of life in the old dog yet!
The team scores, well, you had to see them to believe them. Firstly, the corporate prize which was a golf trip to Vilamoura in Portugal was won by the JR Hoarding Team made up of Simon and Danny Ray, Mark Bridgman and Pro Ben Barham who shot a wonderful 21 under par.
Now I would say that historically this score would also be good enough to take the overall team prize as well, but not in this case. The very last team to hand their card in ruined The Rays' party! 24 under. Yes you read that right! 24 under was posted by the members team of Chairman, Brian Dodson, Julie Burgess, Cameron Morris and joint winning pro David Callaway. An absolutely fantastic score and also a record here at Epsom.
As I said it is always a great day with much celebrating going on into the wee small hours but days like these at the club take hard work from so many areas. So I'd like to thank all the staff of the club for putting such a great shift, not only on the day, but in the run up to the event. The Pro Am Committee led by Declan O'Brien who pull it all together. The army of volunteers, who help set the place up, ball spot, cut hedges, weed the beds, put out signage, serve in the hospitality tents and help us present such a great day. But I'd finally like to thank all the members who give a massive support to the Pro Am, especially Hector Gauld and Horatio Raggio but there are so many others that help make the Epsom Pro Am still one of the best!
The Kennett Show Rolls On...
As we were closed for Pro Am preparations last Thursday I was too busy to get the competition results from that week out but last week was basically 'The Kennett Show! On Sunday in the men's Jos Smith Cup, Dave Kennett took the victory with a very impressive nett 66 to finally get him into the 'single figures' club.
And not be out done by her husband, Shirley Kennett last week won the Ladies Medal with a nett 68 and has now followed it up this week again with 42 points in the Ladies Stableford. This, if you remember from previous reports, follows The Collett Salver two weeks ago. All this earns Shirley a handicap cut in the last few weeks of 7 shots as she now plays off 23. Keep it up Shirley and it looks like The Kennetts may have to build a new trophy cabinet! As you can see Shirley wasn't keen on having her photo taken for the report but I manged to catch her running out the door!
Masters Trophy
In other competition, this Sunday was the The Masters Trophy, the cup Winner's Cup if you will. The winner's winner of The Masters Trophy this year was Charles Loftus shooting a very commendable nett 67.
The masters was run alongside the monthly Medal and the Division winners this month were these guys pictured here.
Captain's Prize Day - This Sunday
This coming Sunday, Men's Captain David Barnett is hosting his Captain's Prize Day and we still have a couple of spots available if any of you 7 day chaps would like to play. The Captain will be in the Pro shop Sunday morning handing out his very nice little gifts and he is also hosting a hospitality tent up on the 8th tee.
The Captain has asked me to do a 'double your money, 'beat the Pro' par 3 competition, so I look forward to seeing you all out there. We are having a BBQ on the terrace after golf and you can then look forward to some lovely prizes at presentation time.
Please get in contact here if you would like to still enter.
