Hello golfers,
Masters
Well it's finally come around, the first Major of the year to get your golfing juices flowing. The Masters kicks off today, but now with a fall down the stairs, is Dustin Johnson still favourite? Or was he pushed? Mind you at 6'5'' it might take a few of his competitors to manage it! So if DJ is out of the picture, who else will be up there? My pick is, which it is most years, the legend that is Phil Michelson. With his wayward driving capabilities Augusta is right up his street and of course, we all know about his unbelievable short game. If he gets his putter going I think he'll be hard to beat. The great thing about the modern game however, is that I could name one of 30 guys with the ability to wear that Green Jacket on Sunday night. So get your bets on and enjoy some wonderful golf this weekend.

On The Course...

Congratulations to Daryl 'Disco Del' Boisierre, who travelled all the way up from the coast to win Sunday's Alternative Stableford with a fantastic 43 points. The longer handicappers were battling it out for the Leveretts Cup and coming out on top was Past Captain, Peter Killick to lift the trophy.

This week for the ladies was their Monthly Medal which was won by Susan Pepperell who shot a superb nett 67 to narrowly beat Conquita into second place.

This coming Sunday we have the Mixed Green Salver and I need a lady! Well, not me personally, but we do need one more lady to partner one of our men. The tee time will be 9:30am and the format is foursomes stableford. So if you would like a game on Sunday (and you're a Full Lady Member) then please let me know at the pro shop.

Staff news

StaffA Fond Farewell

I'm sure you will have read by now, but last week Mark Harvey, our Head Greenkeeper, left us for pasture new. Mark has been with the club for over 20 years and has done some great work out on the golf course of which we thank him very much and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.

This of course leaves the Head Role vacant, but I am very happy to announce the appointment of Craig Russell to Head Greenkeeper. Craig has been our Deputy Head Greenkeepeer for over three years. He has a great work ethic and I am very much looking forward to working with Craig and implementing some of his ideas in his new role. Craig will also be creating regular communication features within this weekly email. Congratulations and good luck Craig.

Coming Up...

I have this week added two upcoming events to the Men's Competition Board, although they are open to all.

Sunday, 23 April - St. George's Day 'Sixes' Competition - This is a team of four event with the added bonus that you are, if you wish, able to invite one guest per team to experience one of Epsom's famous Sundays. The day kicks off with a buffet style breakfast being served from 7:15am. The format is best two scores to count on holes 1-6, best three scores on holes 7-12 and all four scores to count from 13-18. There will be prizes on offer around course and the presentation will, as always, follow golf. The cost for the day (inc breakfast) is £12.50 per golfer.

Friday, 19 May - The Akehurst/Hedger Memorial Charity Golf Day - Unfortunately we lost two wonderful members in the form of Murray Akehurst and Peter Hedger last year, and with the help of Trevor Cowley, we are putting on great golf day to remember two real characters of the club and also raise some money for Cancer Research. The day - coffee and bacon rolls, 18 holes (Trevor to announce the format) and a two course dinner for £30 per head. Guests are welcome so please add your names to the list if you would like to participate in such a special day.
