Club news

Well what a great way to say goodbye!

BubblesSaturday saw over 100 golfers from all sections of the Club come and join in The Captains Farewell Bash. The Captain's had chosen the ever popular Texas Scramble as the format which always makes for a fun round and some crazy scores. Myself and Richard Woods were honoured to be pick to play in The Captains Team and a great day we had. I would especially like to thank Adrian who managed to nurse me round after slipping a disc in my back in the morning, his cocktail of strong painkillers and booze just about got me round. Its crap getting old. There were many winners over the day with both team prizes and nearest the pin prizes but I have to make a special mention to Alan Cottam who managed a hole-in-one on the par 4 16th, yes you read that right par 4. Seen here being presented with his Hole-in-one certificate. Congratulations Alan and I think I can speak on behalf of all and thank you for the 'Bubbles!'

WelldoneThe winning team was the young team of Tom Phillips, Jamie Debrou, Harry Phillips and youngish Eddie Jones. One announcement that made the Captain's very happy was the figure that they have magnificently raised for their charity, Shooting Star Chase Children's Hospice, this year. The grand total was £11,400 which was helped enormously by some very generous members in the Saturdays Charity auction, so special thanks to Mick Peddie, Gary Debrou, Rosco Tanner, Graham Shine and especially Phil Hughes who bid a whopping £850 for a day at Celtic Manor. Thank you gents but also thank you to all who have dipped their hands in their pockets for this fantastic charity.

But the day didn't end there, oh no the festivities went on well into the night with the first ever 'Captain's Karaoke'. As you would expect initial members were a little reluctant to get up but 'The Voice' contender Julie Burgess kicked things off and then as the dutch courage kicked in the microphone was in full demand. Some notable performances included the dulcet tones of Stan 'the voice of an angel' Arnot, Hector 'Purple Rain' Gauld and Richard 'harmony' Halifax. Although our choir of ladies members, led by the lady captain certainly brought the house down. I would like to personally thank disco dell who gave his time to run the karaoke.

Competition news

Winter League
John and mark
For the men this week it was the final round of the winter league competition with all to play for. Unfortunately I can't give you the overall result as the presentation is being made on Sunday after The New Captain's Drive-in, but I can tell you that is very close at the top.

The winners of Sunday's event, the dreaded aggregate medal, were the pairing of John Phillips and Mark Bennett with an impressive nett 136 great golf gents.

Members news

AGM

This weekend at the club is probably the busiest of the year with plenty for you to get involved in.

Firstly on Friday night, one only for the Gents I'm afraid ladies, is the men's club supper, a black tie night with great guests, food and drink. There are still places available if you fancy dusting off the dinner jacket.

On Saturday we have The Annual AGM, which gives you a chance to come a find out how the club has been running over the last twelve months and offer the chance to vote on important Club issues. Due the rugby we have now decided to move the start of the AGM back to 6.30pm.

Sunday is another cracking day, kicking off with the Men's Garrett Cup, on me of the majors of the golfing calendar year. This will be followed by The Driving-in of the new men's, ladies and junior Captains (approx. 2.30pm). The presentation of the Garrett Cup and men's winter league winners will then be presented by the new Captains and we are then offering a Carvery Lunch with bookings still available.

All in all a great weekend, so whether you are playing, dinning or would like to pop up for a drink and support your new captains, I hope to see you all at the club this weekend.
