New Path Finally Finished
I've just been over to have a look and it looks superb. It is still settling and fully bonding, but we are hoping to get it in use for Friday and definitely for the weekend.
Car Park
On Monday, 20 February the car park re-marking will commence, weather permitting of course. To minimise the disruption to members wanting to play the course before 12:00pm on Monday, 20 February they will be asked to use the car park near the grandstand and start from the 6th or 11th tee. The pro shop will confirm the starting arrangements, but the intention is for a limited newly marked area of the car park to be available for use from around 12:00pm. Thank you for your co-operation.
On The Course...
It was a very close run thing in this week's Men's Winter League. The format was 'Two Clubs and a Putter' and I'm always baffled by the quality of the scoring every year. I guess once the decision making process is taken away, it's quite a simple game. The top two pairs went down to a countback between Gary Debrou and partner Chris Wood and Steve Brown and his partner Brian Dodson and it's possible the closest run countback I've ever seen. Back nine - even, back six - even, back three - even! So it came down to who had the best final and nudging their noses in front was Gary and Chris… well played chaps.
The overall Winter League competition is hotting up with only a few rounds left to play. The current leaders are the dream team partnership of Big Stan Arnot and Ray Williams, who hold a 19 point gap over the chasing second placed pairing of Howard Jones and Adam Stapley. But the pair with possibly the most 'experience' in the field, Mick Peddie and Phil Baker, are hot on their heels.
I have to make a special mention to the winner of this week's Ladies Stableford; a fantastic round of 42 points was recorded by Linda Murphy, a wonderful round that earnt her a two shot handicap cut!
The Captain's Farewell Bash
On Saturday, 11 March both the Men's and Ladies Captains invite you to come and celebrate their wonderful year. It is a Fourball Texas Scramble event, followed by a presentation, but this year they have added a little something to take you on into the evening. For the first time at the club I'd like to introduce 'The Captain's Karaoke'. So for all you frustrated rockstars out there, now is your chance to shine! If you would like to join in a fantastic and possibly very funny day, please head to the men's noticeboard to enter… £15 per golfer all in!
