An Evening with Jimmy White and John Virgo
We had another fantastic night at the club on Monday with a fully booked 'Evening with Jimmy White and John Virgo'. Over 50 members and guests enjoyed drinks, a lovely two-course meal and then the main event, world snooker legend Jimmy White performing in our wonderful snooker room. This is the third year that our 'Honourary Members' Jimmy and John have put on an evening here at the club and each one is as good as the last. Jimmy in the first session took on our Captain, Adrian Northeast and I do believe that for a very short time our Captain was actually beating the snooker legend. However, as you can well imagine the Captain's glory was short lived with some incredible play from Jimmy. I have to say that when you watch them on the telly they obviously look impressive, but when you're up close to the action the control and skill is mind-blowing! A couple of our snooker competition winners followed on from the Captain and again they were more or less spectators, but what an amazing experience for them. John Virgo gave a hilarious running commentary throughout the evening and then treated a few lucky volunteers to some very amusing trick shots.
The final few frames were either auctioned or raffled off and I would like to thank the generosity of all who participated allowing us to raise over a £1,000 to help us maintain our one off amazing snooker room. All in all a great night and I'd like to thank our snooker committee and especially Adam Crockford for all his help and allowing us to use his snooker room for the night! Sorry Crocky… couldn't resist!
Founders Weekend
Yes, its that time of year again when I dress up in tradditional golfing attire and take on the members with my favouruite set of Hickory clubs. The Founders Weekend kicks off on Saturday, 28 January with me teeing off at 9.30am with the men's and ladies Captains and for those of you who are unfamiliar with the format, the members have to beat my gross Hickory sticks score with their ¾ handicap nett score. Those who do get an equal share of the prize pot. The best I've managed with them is a 74 and I'd snap your arm off for another one of those in a couple of weeks. Start sheet for entry for both Saturday and Sunday are up on the men's competition board.
Also to top off the weekend, on the Saturday night I'm hosting a dinner and quiz night which will be fun and relaxed. We will be having a traditional menu, including a haggis option and the quiz and games will run throughout the evening. The sign-up poster, including menu is up in the entrance hall, so if you would like a table or if there's just a couple of you, please get your names down for what prooves to be a great weekend. £20 per person (guests welcome).
Hole-in-one Alert
One high point from over the recent festive period that I forgot to report last week was a hole-in-one from Epsom legend Bill Harvey. Bill canned a wedge on the 17th to record his NINTH, yes that's right his ninth ace of his golfing career! Congratulations Bill.
I can't belive I'm doing it again…
In 100 days from today, I will be pounding the streets of London in 'The Virgin London Marthon' on Sunday, 23 April in aid of both the men's and ladies Captain's charity, Shooting Star Chase Children's Hospice. So if you are feeling generous and would be so kind as to sponsor me for this fantastic charity, then I have a couple of ways for you to do so. Firstly click here to visit my 'Virgin Just Giving Page' and donate or simply head to the pro shop and add you name to the sposorship forms. Thank you in advance for you genorosity!
