On the Course...
Last week we had cracking day at the club in the form of The Captain's Charity Golf Day, with 21 teams heading out to play Texas Scramble. It was great to see the clubhouse packed to the rafters with so many more than generous members who managed to raise just over £2,000 on the day for both Captain's Charities, The Shooting Star and Chase Children's Hospice. The eventual winners were the team of Horatio Raggio, Phil Hughes and Harry Phillips.
Sunday's men's competition was one we organised out of the pro shop and this time the format was 'Fours'. This was teams of four and the best two scores on par percentages to count, best three on par fours and all four to count on all par threes. It's always a popular format and this week's winners were the team of John Cresswell, Steve Brown, Malcolm Field and his son as the guest Jon Field… well played chaps.
I would also like to give a special mention to Rita Collins who banged in a 'Hole-in-One' last week on the 17th hole. Here Rita is being presented by The Ladies Captain, with a framed certificate to commemorate her achievement. This is a new idea I have now introduced for all who manage an ace. Great shot Rita!
What's coming up?
Last week I confirmed all the details of another great event here at the club. On Monday, 9 January we are hosting 'An Evening with Jimmy White and John Virgo', these have been very popular nights in the past so please look out for the poster going up on the entertainments board this weekend. The evening will include a two-course dinner with a little after dinner speech from John Virgo followed by eight frames from 'The Whirlwind'. Some of the snooker winners will be able to challenge Jimmy, but I will have a further five frames up for grabs. The cost for the night will be £39 with all proceeds going to the snooker room renovation fund. If you would like the chance to play against Jimmy White, the five frames will be sold off for £100 per frame on a first come first serve basis. It should be a great night so make sure you get your names down early.
Winter Coaching Packages
With the temperatures dropping and winter on it's way, now is the time to think about working on the swing ready for next year. So with that in mind I have put together a special Winter Coaching Programme to help improve your game. Details are as follows:
- Coffee and consultation - We will sit down and work out where your game is now, what your goals are and set a diary of coaching going forwards.
- Six 30 minute sessions including;
Session One - Video work to establish faults and make them clear to you how we intend to put them right.
Session Two - Ingraining work done in first session, fault fixing and creating new improved habits.
Session Three - Taking new and improved techniques and creating more consistency and power, as gaining and understanding of 'how a good golf swing works'.
Session Four - Taking improved techniques and applying them to the long game, starting with hybrids and fairway woods.
Session Five - Driving - improving power and accuracy.
Session Six - Short Game - pitching and chipping techniques, a must and the quickest way to get those scores down.
Take it to the course - A 90 minute on-course session - It is vital that all newly learning techniques are possible to be taken to the course, also focusing on course management. With the inclusion of an on-course putting session.
Gapping session - It is important that the distances you now hit your clubs is clear, so finally a session on the simulator to record club distances.

A bit of a re-fit...
For those of you who have not been into the pro shop in the last couple of weeks, when you next arrive, you will see we have had a bit of a re-fit of the shop with new fixtures and fittings to better display our products for you convenience. Under Armour has also certainly made a big splash with some great garments to prepare you for the onset of winter. The brand has only been in for a fortnight and already we are re-ordering many items to keep us fully stocked. We also have a great autumn/winter Puma range as well as some lovely merino and lambswool Epsom logo' Glenmuir sweaters. So pop down and have a look, even if only to pick out some Christmas gifts.
