Hello golfers,

I firstly wanted to thank you all for the many, many, well wishes I received last week for my wedding last Saturday. It was an amazing day we shared with so many friends and family. My new wife Karla looked stunning, but I think my seven year old son Theo's Best Man's speech stole the show, many happy memories. Thank you all again for the kind wishes, cards and gifts.

 

Mixed Open 2016

So in my absence on Saturday, I would like to thank two of our Competition and Handicaps Committee Members, Richard Woods and Adam Crockford, for stepping in and helping to run this year's Mixed Open. After a slow start to entries, we ended up with a healthy field of 36 from all over Surrey and the surrounding areas. The now formable pair of Woods and Crockford got everyone out, back in, fed and watered and then delivered a 'seamless' presentation. Thank you chaps. This year's winners were the pair who'd made the 'huge' mile and a half journey all the way up from Horton Park GC, David Hoesin and Diane Fowler with a fantastic 42 points. It was another great event, but please remember for next year that any of our members are entitled to enter the Mixed Open with a guest from another club.

Men's Seniors Open

Last Thursday we also had our Men's Seniors Open, again any of our members over 55 are eligible to play in the future. We did have a few of our seniors' section out, guiding our guests around the course. I had many complimentary comments from our guests on how the course played, how welcome they'd been made to feel and the dinner they received. This tears winner was returning guest from Hampton Court Golf Club, Nigel Harris with a super 39 points. He bagged himself a Callaway trolley bag for his efforts and said "he'd had a wonderful day."

   

PING Salver

The weekly Men's Competition was played for the lovely PING Salver. This trophy was donated to the club by PING back in 2012. It's a Stableford event and this year's lucky winner was Ben Northeast, who narrowly beat Peter Brookes on countback, both on 42 points. This of course led to a lovely 'Father and Son' moment at presentation.

 

News from the Course...

Please don't forget that our Green Staff will be solid-tining, top-dressing and over-seeding the greens from next Wednesday, 28 September. Apologies for any inconvenience caused, but this is essential work to maintain the top quality of our greens here at Epsom. Please be aware of our boys working out there.
