Hello golfers,
Last weekend was just as I like it here at the Club, packed to the rafters with members and guests enjoying their golf.
Committee Cup
On Saturday, apart from the normal solidly booked out tee sheet, we had the re-scheduled Committee Cup. This event was set up to thank all our Committee members for the work they do in their own time to make this Club so special. 28 golfers headed out with every stableford point to count for their respective Committees and after a lovely Fish and Chip supper the presentation was made.
This year's winning Committee was The Junior Committee represented by past-Junior/Past-Captain Declan O'Brien, Roy Ridgway and Junior Organiser Roy Chegwin.
Well played Chaps.
Men's Guest Day
The Men's Guest Day followed on the Sunday and despite the windy conditions, it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable days we've had at the Club. We had 80 members and guests on the start sheet but the day kicked off with a champagne buffet breakfast from 7.15am and then all headed out to their respective tees for a shot gun start at 8.45am.
I'd put a couple of 'fully stocked' hospitality tents out on the course as well as a 'booze buggy' delivering to those in need. I was helping to host the tent on the 18th green and initially we couldn't tempt the golfers with any more bubbles but as the morning went on the corks started to pop and the bottles of beer started to flow. I did warn all competitors to get lifts up to the Club.
We had plenty of nearest the pins, longest drive comps around the course as well as a straightest drive competition which was one by past member Dennis Sullivan, who got it so close that he had to move the rope to play his next shot. I'd pulled in a couple of favours and created a fantastic prize table with some great prizes to be won.
This year's winners with a wonderful 46 points were Cameron Morris and his guest Brett Waugh. Congratulations to Cam who made a cracking speech and highlighted what a great day we had. I personally would like to thank all the Staff here at Epsom for their tremendous efforts in putting on such a popular day, some early starts but well worth it.
A real battle...
If you are playing this Saturday morning, beware as we have a battle out there to rival Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, Arsenal vs. Tottenham even The Montegues vs. The Capulates!! Yes it's that time of year when The Business Ladies take on The Tuesday Ladies….!
So please ladies let's make it a good clean fight this year and I will bring you all the result next week.
Men's Club Championships
All the names are in and I am now just sitting down to create the draw sheet for next weekend's premier event with almost 100 golfers ready to compete. The start sheet will be emailed out and will also be in handicap order so please, please if you know you are now not going to be able to play let me know.
Tee times kick off from 8am Saturday morning in this is a 36-hole stroke play event playing for the Roseberry Medal (nett) and the Brookes Cup (scratch).
It always proves to be a fantastic weekend with the presentation being held on the 18th Green on Sunday afternoon (normally around 3pm), so even if you're not playing please feel very welcome to come up and toast the Champions.
The presentation is now traditionally followed by the 150yd Charity Challenge; all are welcome to have a go for a fiver. It's worth coming up and watching this just for the comedy value of watching some of our members try and play after one or two beers.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

| One of the reasons we like Callaway's clothing is the technology involved that makes its garments so effective in hot conditions - be it Opti-Vent or Opti-Cool. Have a browse when you're next in, especially if you've got a lot of golf planned over what we hope will be a sunny back end of the summer. | | |
