Competition news

On the Course...

So a lot to catch up on with what's been going on at the club over the last few weeks with a few Mixed Competitions happening. Firstly, we had the Nightingal Cup played on Saturday, 24 July and this was won by Cam and Clair Morris, but this clearly gave them a taste for victory as only seven days later they had a fantastic score to also win the Smitten Cup. Congratulations to The Morris'.

Next we had the Vice President's Trophy, a beautiful pair of Cups, and this mixed title was taken by the formidable pairing of Clair Partridge and Past Captain Declan O'Brien.

Another lovely event last week was the Parent and Child that always throws up some interesting pairings. This year was the first year I took my little boy of seven out there, we certainly didn't challenge for the title, but maybe one to watch in the future. It's not often that you call a 44 year old Past Captain a child but again congratulation's to Declan O'Brien and his lovely mother Kitty who took this year's title.

Last Sunday was the Men's Monthly Medal and it's great to see so many new faces on the terrace after golf. One such new member, Jimmy Fay, also managed to take the Division Three result with a nett 70. Division Two was taken by Malcolm Field with a cracking nett 68, but the lowest score of the day was recorded by Division One winner Pat Inns with a superb nett 65. Great golf chaps, although handicap cuts three weeks before Men's Club Champs… didn't really think that one through.

What's up next…

There are still spaces for this Sunday's Men's Tritton Cup, it's a Par/Bogey competition and if you would like to play please call the pro shop and I'm sure we can squeeze you in.

The Men's Guest Day takes place on the following Sunday, 21 August and has filled up perfectly with every tee of the shotgun start being taken up. However, if you would like to still bring a guest up for what will be a great day, please let me know and I will double up on a couple of tees. It's a day to possibly get a lift up as we kick off with a Champagne (well maybe Prosecco) buffet breakfast from 7.30am followed by a the shotgun start at 8.45am. I have prizes to be won all over the course as well as a couple of 'fully stocked' hospitality tents to keep you nicely lubricated on your way round. A great prize table awaits the winners on your return, so if you would like to invite a friend up to experience one of Epsom's famous Sundays then please let me know.

I would also like to give you a final reminder for those of you chaps who haven't got your names down for the Men's Club Championships on Saturday, 3 September and Sunday, 4 September to do so. It's a great weekend, but you will have had to play in five qualifying events this year to qualify. Pop into the pro shop and we can let you know how many you have played in if you're not sure.

Video of the week

There's always going to be an element of luck with any hole-in-one, but this is something else! Sadly for Thomas Bjørn, it won't go down as a competitive ace.. Still… worth a watch.

Luckiest ever hole-in-one?
