This week saw the ladies head out to battle for the coveted Ladies Club Championship title over 36 holes on Friday and Saturday. The conditions were good and so were the scores with Eunice Smith and Julie Burgess carding fantastic nett 66s, but just edging out in front with the overnight lead was new member Dena Shah with a cracking nett 65. In the scratch competition it was neck and neck with Kimberly Munro and Julie Burgess both scoring 87s. So who could hold it together for the second round? Saturday's conditions were a little trickier with the wind getting up, but it was Julie Burgess who held her nerve and returned another fantastic nett 69 to take the handicap title with a combined 5-under over the two days. Great golf Julie and congratulations. So the scratch title was still up for grabs, but this round low handicapper Kimberly Munro managed to get herself to the top, again just beating Julie in the process. Well played Kimberly and another title to add to the collection.
Men's Captain's Day
A big thank you must go out the Adrian Northeast who laid on a fantastic day as I understand. Unfortunately I couldn't be there as I took my little boy up to Silverstone for the Grand Prix. I also want to thank my lads Adam and Alex who helped the Captain host his day. We had nearest the pins, straightest drives, hospitality tents, a Captain's free give away and some great prizes all supplied by our Skipper. I imagine with the winner being the ever popular John Phillips, it was possibly the loudest presentation for quite some time! Well played John and thank you again Adrian for a great day.
What's coming up?
We have a busy few weeks coming up in all competitions, we have the Parent and Child on Sunday, 31 July and this is open to all. Whether your son, daughter, father or mother are members or not, you are welcome to invite them up for a great competition. I know I'll be dragging my old man up for a game! We also have a couple of Mixed events up on the board, The Smitten Cup on Saturday, 30 July and the Nightingall Cup on Sunday, 24 July to name a few. All details again are up on the men's competition board.
Men's Guest Day - Sunday, 21 August
You won't miss this one up on the board, one for the men only I'm afraid ladies. The Men's Guest Day is on Sunday, 21 August and is a great opportunity to invite friends or family up for a fantastic day's golf. It kicks off with a Champagne breakfast (well maybe Prosecco) from 7.30am and a shotgun start at 8.45am. We will have nearest the pin and long drive challenges all around the course as well as a couple of 'fully stocked' refreshment tents to keep you and your guests going. A lovely prize table will complete the day, so please invite a guest up to experience one of Epsom's 'famous' Sundays. £35 per pair.
Green Keeper's Update
I wanted to give you some good news of a recent delivery we had here at the club and the dramatic effect it had on our Head Green Keeper. The club is always, where possible, looking to replace old greens machinery and I am happy to report that our brand new fairway mower arrived last week. The dramatic affect... a smile on Mark's face! Further new machinery is hopefully on its way.
The Open Programme
To commemorate The Open I have put together a coaching package for the summer. The package includes:
Three 30 minute range lessons (One on the GC2 simulator)
90 minute on-course lesson
20 minute club gapping session on GC2 simulator
The cost is £130 per golfer or £150 for two golfers sharing. This package deal must be booked by the end of July so please contact me at the pro shop to book your coaching programme or click here to send us an email.
The Open Challenge
With The Open hotting up nicely, I thought I would add a challenge for you on the GC2 simulator in The Swing Studio. I have set up a nearest the pin challenge on the famous 8th hole 'Postage Stamp' at Troon. If you would like to come and have a go it's £2 for two shots with the winner receiving a Callaway stand bag.
